Don’t fall into portion distortion

It’s easy to build an overflowing plate, especially when we’re eating buffet-style at a Thanksgiving gathering! We don’t normally eat like this the rest of the year, so why do we think it’s ok to do it in November? The truth is your body doesn’t need ALL that food. In fact, your body needs only a portion of it.

The ideal plate, according to the American Diabetes Association, should be 50% non-starchy vegetables, 25% protein, 25% grains. Before you eat, take a look at your plate and match it up to these percentages!
