On June 3-5 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBSOK) employees and their families participated in the 2016 University of Oklahoma (OU) Medicine Corporate Challenge in Oklahoma City. The weekend event featured running and walking events, basketball games, a fitness challenge and more! Funds raised at the OU Medicine Corporate Challenge benefit the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) Endeavor Games, a competition for disabled athletes.

At its core, the OU Medicine Corporate Challenge brings together businesses and their employees from all over the city for a weekend of athletic competition, team-building and general good will. Many companies used this event to encourage health and wellness in their employees.

BCBSOK joined more than 30 Oklahoma companies and organizations of all sizes with hundreds of employees in team events like basketball, dodgeball, running, cycling, swimming and volleyball. The BCBSOK men's 3-on-3 basketball team took first place in their division, and other BCBSOK participants in running, cycling and swimming took second, third and fourth places.

Teams were awarded points for participation, performance and volunteering. The overall winning team will be awarded the prestigious OU Medicine Corporate Challenge Cup, and the winning teams from each division will also receive trophies.

This was the sixth consecutive year for the OU Corporate Challenge event. In total the event has raised more than $300,000 for the UCO Endeavor Games. This year’s theme was “Resistance and Momentum. Resistance makes us stronger while momentum pushes us forward.”

BCBSOK and its employees have supported the OU Corporate Challenge since the beginning with time and dollars. BCBSOK encourages our employees serve as healthy living advocates for Oklahoma’s heath and lead by example by supporting events like the OU Corporate challenge.

The UCO Endeavor Games were held for the first time in 2000 on UCO’s campus. The event was originally created by a non-profit organization, whose mission was to provide quality sports programs to athletes with physical disabilities from Oklahoma and beyond. In 2004, UCO recognized the importance and potential this event had and absorbed the non-profit and its staff. That first year, seven sports were offered to 91 athletes from seven states and Australia. The UCO Endeavor Games now offers more than 10 sports and has hundreds of athletes from all over the nation come to compete.
